llms.txt Generator

llms.txt is a plain Markdown file that sits at the root of a website, at yourdomain.com/llms.txt. It gives AI tools a short, curated guide to the site: what it is and which pages matter most. The format was proposed at llmstxt.org.

The llms.txt Generator turns a short form into that file. You enter a site name, a one-line summary and a list of pages. The tool formats the headings and links, then checks the result for common mistakes.

Keep your expectations realistic. llms.txt is a proposal, not a standard that search engines enforce. The limits section below lists what is and is not confirmed.

1. Name your site: Enter the site or brand name and a one-line summary. They become the H1 and the blockquote at the top of the file.
2. Add context (optional): Write two or three lines an AI reader should know, such as your service area, your pricing policy or what you do not cover.
3. List your key pages: Add one page per line as Title | URL | short description. Start a line with ## to create a section such as Services or Guides. Relative links like /about/ are completed with the site URL you entered.
4. Move low-priority pages to Optional: Archives, older posts and similar pages go in the Optional box. The llmstxt.org format treats that section as skippable when an AI tool has limited context.
5. Fix the warnings, then copy or download: Read the list under the file and fix anything flagged. Upload the file as llms.txt to your site root so it opens at yourdomain.com/llms.txt.

A plumbing company enters a name, a summary, a site URL and three pages in two sections.

Results shown come from the live tool. Relative links became full URLs because a site URL was entered.

• Saves hand-formatting. Headings, bullet links and the Optional section follow the llmstxt.org structure.
• Catches mistakes before upload: relative links with no base URL, duplicate links, and entries with no URL or no description.
• Gives AI crawlers and agents that do read the file a short list of your best pages, so they do not have to infer priorities from your navigation.
• Works as a quick content audit. If you cannot describe a page in one line, the page probably needs work.
• Chrome Lighthouse 13.3 added an experimental llms.txt audit in its Agentic Browsing category, as reported by Search Engine Journal in May 2026. A valid file avoids a failed check there.

• Accepts relative links and completes them with your site URL, so you can paste paths straight from your navigation.
• Lists specific problems, such as which link is duplicated or which entry has no description, instead of only printing a file.
• Keeps Optional pages apart from key pages, as the llmstxt.org format describes.
• Uses plain pipe-separated input, so you can build the list in a spreadsheet and paste it.
• Says plainly what the file does and does not do for Google (see the next section).

• Google’s AI optimization guide lists llms.txt among tactics you can skip for its generative AI features in Search, and John Mueller has compared the file to the keywords meta tag (reported by Search Engine Journal, May 2026). Treat llms.txt as optional housekeeping, not a ranking or citation lever.
• I found no official confirmation from other AI search providers that they use the file when choosing sources. Check their current documentation before you rely on it.
• The tool formats what you type. It does not crawl your site, find pages or check that your links return a 200 status. Run key URLs through the Redirect Checker first.
• It does not build llms-full.txt, the longer companion file some documentation sites publish.

The tool runs in your browser. What you type is not sent to my server and is not stored. If you press Share link, your input is encoded in the URL after the # sign. Anyone you send that link to can read it.
