SEO Content Strategy Consultant: Publish What Buyers Search For

I'm Mansoor Bhanpurawala. I've done SEO since 2012. A content strategy tells you which pages and articles to publish, in what order, for which buyer, so traffic turns into enquiries. I build the plan, brief the writers and track what each page earns.

Quick answer: an SEO content strategy maps your buyers' questions to pages across the funnel, groups them into topic clusters, ranks them by intent and difficulty, and sets a publishing and refresh plan. You get a prioritized roadmap, briefs for writers and a way to measure which content produces leads.

What a content strategy includes

Eight parts. Each one answers a decision you face.

You get a plan you can run with your own writers, or I can brief and edit. I quote after I see your site and your goals.

Audience and buyer questions

Start from what people ask before they buy.

  • Customer interviews or sales call notes where you have them
  • Search Console queries, People Also Ask, forums and support tickets
  • Questions grouped by job to be done
  • Buyer personas with the words they use
  • Objections content must handle
  • Local and language needs
You will see: a question bank sorted by buyer stage.

Funnel mapping

Top, middle and bottom of the funnel get different pages.

  • Awareness: guides, definitions, comparisons of approaches
  • Consideration: use-case pages, comparisons, calculators, checklists
  • Decision: service, product and pricing-adjacent pages, case studies
  • Retention: help content that earns renewals and referrals
  • Which stage your site lacks
  • Calls to action per stage
You will see: coverage by stage and the gaps.

Topic clusters and pillar pages

Own a topic instead of scattering posts.

  • One pillar per core topic, with supporting articles
  • Internal link map that ties every article back
  • Unique keyword per page, no overlap
  • FAQ and comparison pages in every cluster
  • Cannibalization check before anything is written
  • Priority tiers: write first, second, last
You will see: clusters with a build order.

Keyword and intent prioritization

Not every keyword deserves a page.

  • Volume, difficulty, intent and business value per topic
  • Quick wins: pages at positions 4 to 20 with impressions
  • Long-tail with conversion intent
  • Topics to skip and why
  • SERP format check: list, guide, tool, video, local pack
  • Branded and non-branded split
You will see: a ranked topic list with reasons.

Briefs for writers

A brief decides whether a draft is usable.

  • Search intent, angle and reader
  • Outline with H2s from real questions
  • Must-have facts, sources and examples
  • Internal links and calls to action
  • Schema and format notes
  • Experience and proof the writer must include
You will see: briefs your writers can draft from without calls.

E-E-A-T and originality

Pages that say something others cannot copy.

  • First-hand data, screenshots and process notes
  • Named authors and reviewers with credentials
  • Sources linked and dated
  • Original tools, calculators and templates
  • Case studies with honest limits
  • Review step for YMYL topics
You will see: pages with proof, not paraphrase.

Refresh and prune plan

Old content is an asset or a drag.

  • Content audit: keep, refresh, merge, redirect, remove
  • Decay detection from Search Console trends
  • Traffic pre-mortem before any removal
  • Update cadence by topic
  • Date and fact checks
  • Consolidating thin pages
You will see: a refresh calendar with expected gains.

Distribution and AI visibility

Content that nobody sees earns nothing.

  • Internal links from strong pages
  • LinkedIn, newsletter and community promotion
  • Answer-first formats for AI Overviews and chat tools
  • Digital PR angles inside content
  • Repurposing into video and short posts
  • Citation tracking
You will see: referral sources and AI mentions.
How a content strategy project runs

Seven steps from research to a publishing calendar.

The plan comes first. Writing before planning is how sites end up with 300 posts and no traffic.

01

Goals and audience

We agree what a lead is, who buys and what they ask. I read your sales notes and top-converting pages.

Output: Goal and persona sheet

02

Current content audit

I pull every URL with clicks, impressions, links and conversions. Each page gets a verdict.

Output: Content inventory with verdicts

03

Opportunity research

Search Console, keyword tools and SERPs show where you can win and where you cannot yet.

Output: Topic and keyword shortlist

04

Cluster design

I group topics into clusters with a pillar, supporting articles and a link map. No two pages share a keyword.

Output: Cluster map

05

Roadmap

Priority 1, 2 and 3 tiers with owner, format and expected result. Quick wins go first.

Output: Quarterly roadmap

06

Briefs and production support

I write briefs, review drafts and add the proof that makes a page worth ranking.

Output: Briefs and edited drafts

07

Measure and adjust

Monthly review of clicks, leads, top-10 pages and AI mentions. Losers get refreshed or cut.

Output: Monthly report and next-month plan

The strategy checklist

36 questions every content plan must answer.

If your current plan cannot answer these, it is a calendar, not a strategy.

Audience

  • Who buys and who influences the purchase?
  • What do they search before they buy?
  • Which questions does sales hear weekly?
  • What do they distrust?
  • Which words do they use?
  • Which markets matter?

Coverage

  • Which funnel stage has no pages?
  • Which service or product has no supporting content?
  • Is there a comparison page for each rival you lose to?
  • Is there a pricing-factors page?
  • Is every cluster linked to a pillar?
  • Is there an FAQ per cluster?

Prioritization

  • Which pages already sit at positions 4 to 20?
  • Which topics carry buying intent?
  • Which topics can you win with your authority?
  • Which topics would a competitor own for years?
  • Which are quick wins?
  • Which should you skip?

Quality

  • What proof does each page carry?
  • Who is the named author?
  • What can this page say that others cannot?
  • Are sources current?
  • Does a subject expert review sensitive topics?
  • Does the page answer in the first 60 words?

Operations

  • Who writes, edits and publishes?
  • What is the brief template?
  • How often do pages get refreshed?
  • Who checks cannibalization?
  • How are changes logged?
  • What is the approval path?

Measurement

  • How is a lead counted?
  • Which pages assist conversions?
  • Which clusters grow impressions?
  • How are AI citations tracked?
  • When does a page get cut?
  • What is the review rhythm?
Priority tiers

How I order a roadmap so effort lands where it pays first.

TierWhat goes inWhy first or lastTypical format
Priority 1High intent, clear volume, existing impressionsClosest to revenue and proofService, comparison, pillar, refresh
Priority 2Medium volume, long-tail supportBuilds topic depth and internal linksHow-to guides, FAQs, calculators
Priority 3Low volume, high conversion intentSmall traffic, strong leadsUse-case, location, integration pages

Every cluster includes at least one FAQ page and one comparison page, and no article is an orphan. Programmatic pages, as on the fintech platform, need a link plan that protects your core transactional pages. I learned that the hard way: navigational traffic fell 50% and transactional 60% there while informational and commercial traffic grew.

What I see go wrong

Eight content mistakes I see.

Publishing on a calendar, not a plan

Posting weekly without a topic map produces overlap and gaps. Clusters first, calendar second.

Writing for traffic, not for buyers

The SaaS I worked with had 3,980 clicks a quarter and none were non-branded. Traffic existed, buyers did not.

Ignoring the middle of the funnel

Guides at the top and a contact page at the bottom leave no comparison or use-case content to close the gap.

Cannibalizing yourself

Three posts targeting the same phrase split clicks and signals. One page should own each query.

Skipping the proof

Generic content copied from rivals gives Google and AI systems no reason to pick you.

Never refreshing

Pages decay. A refresh on a page already at position 8 usually beats a new article.

Deleting without checking

Pruning thin pages is right. Pruning pages that carry links or rankings is costly. I check first.

Measuring only visits

Visits that never become leads are a vanity number. Tie content to inquiries.

What I use for this

Each chart draws the confirmed start and end values from Search Console as bars. They are not daily data and show no curve in between. Exact monthly values come from the CSV exports. Search Console measures clicks and impressions, not revenue. Each property had several kinds of work running at once, so no chart isolates one service. Client names are withheld at their request. Case studies

Content plans that moved numbers, and what they cost.

Each started with an audit of what the site already ranked for.

SaaS

An accounting SaaS with the wrong traffic

Found: 3,980 clicks a quarter, zero non-branded.

Did: non-branded content, use-case pages, two free calculators, a comparison page, five directory listings.

Result: 0 to 445 non-branded clicks, 52,300 impressions, 104 AI-assistant visits.

What went wrong: branded clicks fell 31% and signups were never tracked.
Fintech

An Indian platform that lost half its traffic

Found: a footer hidden from crawlers and 302 redirects where 301s belonged.

Did: fixed both first, then a news section, hub-and-spoke blog, gold and silver rate pages, programmatic stock pages.

Result: Gold-rates page reached 53.2K clicks in about 3 months and silver-rates 47.2K in about 2.

What went wrong: navigational traffic fell 50% and transactional 60% as link equity moved to programmatic pages.
B2B manufacturing

A manufacturer that needed export buyers

Found: 82% of clicks came from India. The business sells only abroad.

Did: rebuilt product pages, MOQ-led content, schema, llms.txt.

Result: 16 to 22 inquiries in six months, about half from GCC and tier-1 buyers.

What went wrong: a catalog cleanup without a traffic check cost 23% of clicks in one month.
How long it takes

Timelines from my own projects.

Nobody can promise a date. These ranges come from my own projects.

About 4 months

New topics

An accounting SaaS went from 0 to 445 non-branded clicks in four months.

2 to 3 months

Fresh high-intent pages

The gold-rates page reached 53.2K clicks in about three months.

About 6 months

Leads

A B2B manufacturer went from one inquiry a quarter to 16 to 22 in six months.

6 to 12 months

Topical authority

Clusters compound. Plan for a year to own a competitive topic.

Competition, your site authority and how fast you publish all change the pace.

ROI and KPIs

I tie content to leads, not to word counts.

Non-branded clicks

Clicks from queries that do not contain your brand.

Top-10 pages

Number of pages ranking in the top ten for target topics.

Leads from content

Form, call and WhatsApp events tied to landing pages.

Cluster impressions

Growth in impressions per topic cluster.

AI mentions

Citations in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews.

If a KPI does not move, I say so and change the plan. I will not hide behind "rankings improved."

What it costs

Five things decide the price.

I do not publish a price list, because the same budget buys different work depending on these factors. Message me on WhatsApp or call +91 90331 72192. I quote after I see your site.

Scope

A strategy for one service and a strategy for a whole catalogue differ.

Content volume

Ten pages a quarter and 100 pages a month need different support.

Who writes

I brief your writers, edit, or write.

Subject complexity

YMYL topics need expert review.

Plan only or ongoing

A roadmap costs less than monthly production management.

Who does the workThe person you talk to. I do the keyword research, cluster design and briefs myself.A team, with an account manager as your contact. One person, often alongside a job or other clients.

What you pay forExpert time.Expert time plus management and overhead.Task time. Quality varies the most.

A content plan needs someone who knows search data, the buyer and the writing. One person holding all three beats a hand-off chain.

  • You publish content that does not rank or convert.
  • You have a service business with no supporting content.

Questions people ask

What is an SEO content strategy?

It is a plan that decides which pages and articles to publish, for which buyer and in what order, based on search demand, intent and business value. It includes topic clusters, briefs, a publishing roadmap and a refresh plan.

How is content strategy different from a content calendar?

A calendar lists dates and titles. A strategy decides why each topic matters, which funnel stage it serves, how it links to other pages and how you will measure it.

What is a topic cluster?

A topic cluster is one pillar page that covers a subject broadly, linked to supporting articles that cover subtopics in depth. Each article links back to the pillar. Together they show topical authority.

How many articles do I need?

It depends on the competition. A small service business may need a pillar and eight to fifteen supporting pages. A SaaS or store needs more. I size it after the audit.

How long until content brings traffic?

New topics often take about four months to show non-branded clicks. Competitive topics take longer. Refreshing pages already near the top can move faster.

Do you write the content?

I write briefs and edit drafts, and I write key pages myself. For volume, I direct your writers.

Can AI write my content?

AI can draft. A page still needs first-hand proof, accurate facts, a named author and an editor. Unedited AI text rarely ranks or earns trust.

Should I delete old posts?

Sometimes. I check clicks, links and rankings first, then keep, refresh, merge or redirect. Deleting without a check cost one client 23% of clicks in a month.

What is programmatic SEO and is it risky?

It means generating many pages from data, such as stock or rate pages. It worked well on the fintech platform. It needs strict quality rules and internal links that protect core pages.

Do you plan content for AI search too?

Yes. Answer-first sections, clear entities and cited facts help AI systems quote your pages. See my AEO and GEO pages.

What do you need to start?

Search Console and GA4 access, your top competitors, your best customers and a list of questions sales hears.

Send your URL. I'll tell you what to publish first.
