Shopify SEO Consultant Who Knows What the Platform Will and Will Not Let You Fix

I'm Mansoor Bhanpurawala. I've done SEO since 2012. Shopify makes stores easy to launch and gives you less control over URLs and templates than most platforms. I work inside those limits to fix duplicate URLs, collection and product pages, apps, speed and markets.

Quick answer: Shopify SEO is the work that gets a Shopify store found in Google and AI answers: collection and product page optimization, duplicate URL control, theme and Liquid fixes, structured data, app and speed clean-up, redirects and Markets setup. I audit the store, rank fixes by revenue impact and give you exact changes for your theme or developer.

What Shopify SEO covers

Nine areas. Each one fits what Shopify actually allows.

I do this work myself. For scope and cost, message me on WhatsApp or call +91 90331 72192. I quote after I see your store.

Store structure and collections

Collections are your category pages, and they usually carry the most revenue.

  • Collection and sub-collection plan built from how shoppers search
  • Navigation menus that expose key collections to crawlers
  • Fixed URL prefixes (/collections/, /products/, /pages/, /blogs/) planned around, not fought
  • Smart collections and tags used with care so they do not create thin pages
  • Collection copy with real buying help, above or below the grid
  • Internal links from guides and best-sellers
You will see: clicks and impressions on collection pages.

Duplicate URL control

Shopify can expose the same product at several URLs.

  • Product URLs under /collections/handle/products/handle checked against canonical to /products/handle
  • Variant parameters (?variant=) and sort and filter parameters reviewed
  • Tag and filter URLs: decide what is indexed
  • Pagination handled without orphaning deep products
  • robots.txt.liquid edits only where needed and tested
  • Search Console "Duplicate" and "Alternate page" reports read properly
You will see: fewer duplicate and excluded URLs, cleaner index.

Theme and Liquid fixes

Many SEO issues live in the theme.

  • H1 and heading structure on each template
  • Title and meta description templates with product, collection and brand fields
  • Canonical tag, noindex rules and hreflang output checked
  • Breadcrumb output and schema in the theme
  • Image alt text pulled from product data
  • Metafields for specs, FAQs and sizing used in content
You will see: valid templates and consistent metadata.

Product page optimization

Pages that rank and convert.

  • Product titles with the words buyers search
  • Descriptions that answer fit, material, use and returns
  • Image sets with descriptive names and alt text
  • Variants and size guides that do not hide content
  • Product, Offer and AggregateRating schema that matches visible data
  • Shipping and returns information for merchant listings
You will see: product clicks, conversion rate and rich results.

Apps, scripts and speed

Every app can add code.

  • App audit: what each app loads, what it costs in speed
  • Review apps and schema apps that print duplicate JSON-LD
  • Theme choice and section weight
  • Hero image and font loading
  • Core Web Vitals from field data, by template
  • Removal of leftover code from uninstalled apps
You will see: Core Web Vitals pass rate and load time.

Redirects and migrations

Moving to or from Shopify without losing traffic.

  • URL inventory and redirect map before the move
  • Bulk redirects with the URL Redirects import
  • No redirect chains after handle changes
  • Handling of discontinued products: redirect or keep with a clear message
  • Launch-day checks and four-week monitoring
  • Traffic pre-mortem before any catalog cleanup
You will see: preserved clicks after a move.

Content, blog and buying guides

Reach shoppers before they are ready to buy.

  • Guides, comparisons and how-to articles that link to collections
  • Blog structure within Shopify's flat /blogs/ model
  • Article schema and named authors
  • FAQ and sizing content on collection and product pages
  • Video and image assets reused across pages
  • Refresh plan for old posts
You will see: non-branded clicks and assisted sales.

Markets and international

Several countries without duplicate content.

  • Markets setup: domains or subfolders and what hreflang Shopify outputs
  • Currency, language and translation app review
  • Localized titles, descriptions and collection copy
  • Search Console country reports by market
  • Merchant Center feeds per country
  • Avoiding auto-redirects that block crawlers
You will see: impressions and clicks in each target country.

Merchant Center, feeds and AI shopping

Product data feeds visibility beyond blue links.

  • Product feed quality: titles, GTIN, brand, material, color, size
  • Merchant Center diagnostics fixed
  • Free listings eligibility
  • Structured data and feed consistency
  • Product pages that answer AI shopping questions
  • Tracking AI referrals in GA4
You will see: product impressions and AI mentions.
How a Shopify SEO project runs

Seven steps from audit to monthly revenue report.

Revenue pages go first. Cosmetic fixes wait.

1

Access and goals

Search Console, GA4, Shopify staff access (no owner login), Merchant Center. We agree what a sale or lead is worth.

Output: Access list and goals
2

Crawl and data pull

Full crawl, Search Console export, theme and app review, speed data.

Output: Raw data pack
3

Diagnose by template

Home, collection, product, blog and page templates reviewed one at a time.

Output: Issue list by template
4

Rank by revenue impact

Fixes ranked by the revenue the pages carry and the effort required.

Output: Ranked audit
5

Change sheet

Exact Liquid edits, setting changes and app removals your developer can apply, or I can apply them with approval on a duplicate theme.

Output: Change sheet
6

Release check

Re-crawl after each release and use URL Inspection on samples.

Output: Pass or fail per change
7

Monthly report

Clicks, collection and product page trends, organic revenue and next steps.

Output: Monthly report
The Shopify audit checklist

37 checks on every Shopify store.

Stores usually fail several. I rank the failures by revenue.

URLs and index

  • Product canonical points to /products/handle
  • Variant URLs canonicalised to the main product
  • Filter and sort URLs not indexed by default
  • Tag pages indexed only if useful
  • Sitemap lists real products and collections
  • Password or hidden pages not exposed
  • Redirects have no chains

Collections

  • Each collection has a clear target query
  • Unique copy beyond the product grid
  • Pagination works and is crawlable
  • Out-of-stock products handled
  • Collections linked from menus and guides
  • No thin collections from auto tags

Products

  • Titles carry the main keyword and brand
  • Descriptions answer buyer questions
  • Images named and described
  • Price, availability and rating schema valid
  • Reviews shown on the page
  • Shipping and returns visible

Theme and code

  • One H1 per page
  • Meta templates use product fields
  • No duplicate schema from theme and apps
  • Breadcrumbs valid
  • No leftover code from removed apps
  • Mobile layout matches desktop content

Speed

  • LCP at or under 2.5 s in field data
  • INP at or under 200 ms
  • CLS at or under 0.1
  • Apps audited for weight
  • Hero image sized and prioritised
  • Fonts and sliders under control

International and feeds

  • Markets domains or subfolders set deliberately
  • hreflang output correct
  • Currency and language do not duplicate URLs
  • Merchant Center feed has no critical errors
  • GTIN and brand present
  • Country targeting tracked
What Shopify controls, and what I can still change

An honest line between platform limits and your own levers.

Platform limits

  • URL prefixes for products, collections, pages and blogs
  • Auto-generated sitemap.xml
  • Flat blog structure
  • Some checkout and cart behaviour

What I can change

  • Theme templates, headings and metadata
  • Canonical, noindex and robots.txt.liquid rules
  • Collection and product content
  • Redirects and navigation
  • Apps, scripts and speed
  • Schema and Merchant Center data

What I recommend instead

  • Strong handles, set once and kept
  • Internal links that make up for flat structure
  • Guides that feed collections
  • Fewer, better apps
What I see go wrong

Eight Shopify SEO mistakes I find.

Deleting products without a traffic check

Removing "dead" products can remove pages that still earn links and clicks. A catalog cleanup cost one client 23% of clicks in a month.

Letting apps print their own schema

Theme, review app and SEO app each add Product markup. Conflicts waste effort and confuse validators.

Indexing every tag and filter combination

Auto-generated tag and filter pages can create thin, near-duplicate URLs. Decide what is indexed.

Fighting the URL structure

Shopify fixes the /products/ and /collections/ prefixes. Spend effort on handles, content and internal links instead.

Collections with only a grid

A product grid alone gives Google little to rank. Add buying help, links and context.

Too many apps

Each app can add scripts. Remove what you do not use and check speed after every install.

Handle changes without redirects

Changing a product handle changes its URL. Confirm the redirect and avoid chains.

Ignoring Merchant Center

Product data errors hold back free listings and shopping features.

Platform-specific results are not on this page yet.

The e-commerce results above are not tagged to one platform. I will add Search Console exports from named Shopify stores as clients approve them. Until then, treat these as proof of the e-commerce method, not of platform-specific gains.

Each chart draws the confirmed start and end values from Search Console as bars. They are not daily data and show no curve in between. Exact monthly values come from the CSV exports. Search Console measures clicks and impressions, not revenue. Each property had several kinds of work running at once, so no chart isolates one service. Client names are withheld at their request. Screenshots available on a call.

Case studies

E-commerce and catalog cases, including a mistake.

These are not all Shopify stores. They show how I work on catalogs, products and measurement.

E-commerce

A UK jewellery retailer in AI answers

Found: an e-commerce store selling to the UK.

Did: site speed, schema, Merchant Center feed, buying guides.

Result: 65,500 AI Overview impressions in three months, 117K AI-feature impressions in the UK against 1.78K in the US.

What went wrong: impression counts are visibility, not sales. Revenue was not part of the data I could share.
B2B manufacturing

A manufacturer that needed export buyers

Found: 82% of clicks came from India. The business sells only abroad.

Did: rebuilt product pages, MOQ-led content, schema, llms.txt.

Result: 16 to 22 inquiries in six months, about half from GCC and tier-1 buyers.

What went wrong: a catalog cleanup without a traffic check cost 23% of clicks in one month.
Fintech

An Indian platform that lost half its traffic

Found: a footer hidden from crawlers and 302 redirects where 301s belonged.

Did: fixed both first, then a news section, hub-and-spoke blog, gold and silver rate pages, programmatic stock pages.

Result: Gold-rates page reached 53.2K clicks in about 3 months and silver-rates 47.2K in about 2.

What went wrong: navigational traffic fell 50% and transactional 60% as link equity moved to programmatic pages.
How long it takes

Timelines from my own projects.

Nobody can promise a date. These ranges come from my own projects.

Weeks

Duplicates and index

Canonical, filter and redirect fixes can show in Search Console within weeks.

About 28 days

Core Web Vitals

Field data updates on a rolling 28-day window.

3 months

AI features

A UK jewellery retailer reached 65,500 AI Overview impressions in three months.

4 to 6 months

Competitive collections

Crowded collection terms usually take longer.

Your timeline depends on catalog size, competition and how fast your theme changes ship.

ROI and KPIs

I set targets before I start, and tie them to revenue.

Organic revenue

GA4 e-commerce revenue from organic search.

Collection clicks

Search Console clicks and impressions on collection pages.

Product page clicks

Clicks per product and per template.

Index health

Valid pages, duplicates and excluded URLs.

Core Web Vitals

Pass rate by template.

If a KPI does not move, I say so and change the plan. I will not hide behind "rankings improved."

What it costs

Five things decide the price.

I do not publish a price list, because the same budget buys different work depending on these factors. Message me on WhatsApp or call +91 90331 72192. I quote after I see your site.

Catalog size

Fifty products and fifty thousand are different jobs.

Theme and app load

Heavy themes and many apps raise effort.

Markets

More countries and languages add scope.

Migration

A move to or from Shopify adds redirect and QA work.

One-off or monthly

An audit costs less than ongoing work.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is Shopify good for SEO?

Shopify gives you a solid base: clean sitemaps, fast hosting, mobile themes and canonical tags. It limits some URL control and can create duplicate URLs. Good SEO on Shopify means working inside those limits.

What is the most common Shopify SEO problem?

Duplicate and thin URLs from collections, tags, filters and variants, followed by slow themes loaded with apps, and collection pages that have only a product grid.

Can I edit robots.txt on Shopify?

Yes. Shopify supports a robots.txt.liquid template. I change it only when the audit shows a need, and I test the result.

Can I change Shopify URL structure?

Not the prefixes. Products live under /products/, collections under /collections/, pages under /pages/ and blogs under /blogs/. You can control handles, and you should keep them stable.

Do Shopify apps hurt SEO?

They can. Apps add scripts that slow pages and some print duplicate structured data. I audit each app and keep only the ones that earn their cost.

How do you handle collection pages?

I give each collection a target query, add helpful copy and links, control filter and tag URLs and make sure the page is crawlable and fast.

Do you do Shopify migrations?

Yes. I build the URL inventory, the redirect map and the launch checklist, then monitor for four weeks. See my technical SEO page.

How long does Shopify SEO take?

Duplicate and index fixes can show within weeks. New traffic from collection and guide content often takes about four months. Competitive terms take longer.

Do you work on Shopify Markets and international stores?

Yes. I review domains or subfolders, hreflang output, currency, translations and country reports.

Does Shopify SEO help AI shopping answers?

Complete product data, valid schema, reviews and clear answers help. See my GEO page.

What do you need to start?

Your store URL, Search Console and GA4 access, Shopify staff access without owner credentials, and your top competitors.

Do you guarantee rankings or sales?

No. Nobody controls Google. I promise a ranked plan, release checks and honest reporting.

Send your store URL. I'll tell you what is holding it back.
